Bed removal???
Anyone have any suggestions on removing a bed by yourself? And no, I don't have a engine lift (cherrypicker) but that seems like the best option.

Re: Bed removal???
If you must do this by your self. One idea would be to unbolt the bed, remove wiring. Then jack up the bed one end at a time, placing a long 4x4 timber probabley 10 foot under the bed, suported by saw horses on either end. Do this front and rear. Then drive out from under the bed.

Re: Bed removal???
4 saw horses and 2-8 ft 4x4's. Unbolt the bed and slide it back about a foot.
Put a 4x4 across the frame behind the cab...pick up that end of the bed and slide the 4x4 under it. Then put both ends of the 4x4 on the saw horses one at a time. Do the same in some manner on the back end and roll the truck out.

Re: Bed removal???
we did it about a month ago. My father and my son helped. It wasn't light to say the least. Took another one off by myself but the bed was trash so I didn't care if i dented it.

Re: Bed removal???
be very very careful. I would go rent or borrow a cherry picker. Most autoparts stores will loan them out to you with a deposit. I just did this without the cherry picker and it was a bear. got hung up on the tires and the rear bumper. If you do it yourself, remove the rear bumper.

Re: Bed removal???
I was able to back into the garage and wrap a rope around the rafters. It was super easy to lift and support one corner at a time. This worked great to replace my wood bed floor, and when it was done I just backed in and lowered it right back into place.
Did it completely by myself, too. One corner cant weigh more than a 150 lbs or so. |

Re: Bed removal???
i used a cherry picker - attached straps front to rear in creating a "X". extended legs and boom on picker and lifted from the side. make sure the legs(width) on the picker clear the tire. piece of cake
good luck |
