something else is broke...

so, the truck is pretty much running(though needs some carb tuning) but i've noticed that when it is running, its making a loud screatching noise from the engine...

i disconnected the power steering pump and its still happening. i think i've tracked it down to my water pump that i guess is going bad. maybe thats why it got 200+ yesterday when it was running.....

i'll post a video in a minute when youtube loads it. hand spinning the pump it makes an awful groaning sound.

turn the sound up

Re: something else is broke...

I had to replace the water pump in my buddy's dad's V6 Sonoma, it had the sounds you describe. His bearings wore out and the impeller started digging in the walls of the chamber. Water pumps should be dead quiet when spun by hand.

Hahaha! First time I heard it on the video, I totally thought it was you or someone else there making that noise.

LMFAO!! I was like why the heck is he making those weird sounds? That makes it really hard to hear the noise he is trying to diagnose. lol.

Man that really does sound like someone mumbling jibberish. I really though someone was saying "turn it on!" in the beginning.

Re: something else is broke...

just replaced the power steering pump. it is better now no more noise from it and the steering feels a lot better.

though i did notice something that really pissed me off!
to go with the theme of this thread, here is yet another part that is broke...

my frame is cracked at the steering box! yes i know its pretty common, but still! i guess the best fix is to get one of the repair kits that weld in to reinforce it?

Re: something else is broke...

as much as i hate to say it... Offroad Design is the place to go for the repair plates, and add a brace while you're at it to prevent this from happening again.

Re: something else is broke...

Count me in for pics if you got 'em. I'm almost afraid to look, but I bet I got some issues at the steering box as well.

Here's a link to the Offroad Design kit to repair/prevent it:

Re: something else is broke...

Here you go guys.. my truck did this too but I blamed in on the larger tires and the abuse I gave it. As you can tell it pulled a whole chunk out of the frame and then started cracking up the frame.

Re: something else is broke...

Without seeming like an idiot, where is the steering box in relation to that crack?

OK, without seeming like more of an idiot.
