GMC and Chevy Fenders
is there a difference in the gmc and chevy fenders? I have heard that if you change grilles that you have to change fenders also.

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
I found this out the hard way...
It really depends which grille you want to switch to... 67-68 are the same for both chev & GMC (68 obviously sporting the addition of side markers). in 69 chev changed the fender design, but GMC maintained the 68 style. Another factor in swapping from chev to GMC grille (or vice versa) would be the radiator support. the headlight mounting is different due to the fact that the gmc has dual headlights. a few members have modified their support, and maybe they will chime in

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
as far as I know..
'67... same for gmc and chevy '68 chevy also fits 68-72 gmc 69-72 chevy fits only chevy so if you have a 69-72 chevy and wanted to go with the 67-68 grill you would have to get new fenders to go with it.

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
AS stated the fenders are different depending on year and logo--GMC / Chev. BUT, there are a lot of other differences that need to match up for correct setup: the hood latch and grill to rad support is different from year to year----, some require trim on fenders---, some require trim on hood leading edge, some have different radiator supports ie dual buckets for GMC, GMC has an upper bar trim above the grill etc. Better take the time to know just what you are trying to do or be prepared to fabricate ~~!!

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
well I have a 70 gmc 3/4. it has the gmc grille but my friend said it has chevy fenders. the hood does have a chevy bowtie on it. I was thinking if they are chevy fenders and hood then I would change the gmc grille to a chevy. but it may be a bigger job than I want to get into.

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
You'd have to swap out everything on your front clip except the hood, hinges, and inner fenders.

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
I personally did this on a 67 GMC and the only thing I had to do was remove the GMC grill and reinstall the chevy grill , the radiator support had an extra tab to hold the extra headlight bucket I just removed the tab one on each side inboard and left the outboard tabs to hold the chevy headlight bucket's , I will assume that this will apply to 67 68 truck's for sure can't tell you about 69 up ?

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
A lot of what everyone is telling is correct to a point. We really need to know what year of Chevy grille you want to swap in in order to give the correct answer.
When people tell you that the stock GMC fenders work for a Chevy grille they are assuming you want to install a 67/68 Chevy grille. If you post a picture of the front of the fenders where the grille meets it we can tell you if they are the GMC fenders or if someone swapped them out to the 69-72 Chevy fenders.

Re: GMC and Chevy Fenders
I will post some pics soon as I can. I was thinking about a 70 chevy grille since it is a 70 model but I will probably leave it alone. but something doesnt look right. may be because it has checy fenders with the gmc grille. I will get some pics up
