i thought the bolt holes for the TBI intake were different from the older carb intakes?

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

I would keep the complete engine/trans harness and the computer.

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

It would take work, but would be pretty straight forward.
I think two major items would be the electric in-tank fuel pump (TBI requires ~12 - 14 psi and needs return lines and tank vent) and the trans cross-member/mount (may or may not be a problem).

With the stock harness, it would probably run best (in terms of mpg, reliability and performance) if you kept all the emission controls and and sensors on the engine.

If you don't want all the emissions stuff, I would ditch the stock harness and look up Howell EFI or similar and use your stock computer.
http://www.howellefi.com/shop/customer/home.php

In terms of swap-related information, I would be searching the internet for 4x4 sites- they typically swap to TBI.

If you have specific questions about the TBI system, check out my old stomping grounds: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tbi/
The guys over there are top notch and know what they are talking about- a very good group.

I have a 91 Camaro RS with a 383 Fast Burn engine in it, retained TBI and all emissions equipment- no SES lights or anything. You can do a lot with TBI.

Best-

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

You need the engine and all of the components, plus with engine harness and computer. Mount the computer under your dash somewhere.. You want the fuel lines from the carb down and if you can all the way back. You can get an inline fuel pump from summit for about $140 that Holley makes for this swap. I have one for my truck.. I was going to put in a 350 TBI but I got a big block instead with the TBI unit.. I think the pump you want is this one http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku I will look and see which one I have to double check..

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

I would suggest going with an aftermarket harness. You could use the stock one, but that would require lots of time going through the harness with a wiring diagram and figuring how and where to hook up everything. There will be quite a bit involved with that swap, but well worth it IMO. To go over everything involved would be a bit lengthy....have you posted this in the 'engine' forum here? there are several knowledgable guys that frequent that forum.Another thing you could do for help is get an EFI swap book/guide. Most of them deal with TPI, but the basic FI system is the same. That would help you understand what all is involved with the swap. There's also lots to be found on the www, thirdgen is an excellent one as mentioned before. Here's a couple more where you might find info and help

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

I did two of those a few years ago. One I used a painless tbi harness(easy) the other, I spent hours with a service manual, removing unneeded wires and making other changes. As far as the fuel system, I simply used an inline fuel pump from holley, then made a return line to the tank. Otherwise the engine bolts in, the trans crossmember may need to be farther back though.

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

I done a little more reading around and learned that the trans is a 4L60 non compu. my plans have change a little well alot, im going to use a carb and a lock-up kitt for the trans. and keep the tbi, harness and brain in case i want to go FI at a later day.

Re: How to transplant a 350tbi ?

A word of advise....make sure the TV cable is hooked up and adjusted properly, otherwise you may fry that trans. IIRC it should be the same procedure as a 700R4 (same trans)
