Hey ebfabman.....What do you use for finish grinding on your welds? I have tried the 3M Roloc disc and an angle die grinder as final finish......and like the results. The finish looks very similiar...but your welds look lots better....

If this is how you finish, what grit/color do you use.

Shane, I think we may use similar tools. I can post a pic of what I use to clean up the welds if you like.
Do you have a digicam? I would like to see your welds. I have found the better the welds, the easier they are to clean up.
Also, what kind of welding set up are you using?

I am a rookie welder from the word GO! LOL

I have an older Miller Cricket MIG set up and am running 75/25 mix. I have tried my hand at TIG welding, but only in the places where they can't be seen once re-assembled.

I also agree with you, the better the weld, the better the grinding and finishing is gonna be. I usually use a pneumatic grinder with an 4inch 80 grit disc on it, and then follow it with a 2 inch 3M Roloc. I think the disc I have now are the orange code..but can't remember right off the top of my head. I also use one of the small Dewalt side grinders to "rough in" when the welds are real ugly...which is most of the time! LOL I then follow that with what I described above.

No pics of any current welds....lucky for me i have them in primer now.

those look great, efabman, i'm starting a project on my 72, needs 1 cab corner, and one rocker panel, also there is some rust in the top right corner of the windshield frame, along with fenders, box repairs, etc...I've dabbled a little with patch panels and have even fabricated some filler panels for rust holes, any tips you have for me would be appreciated. The welder i have is a 110 wire feed using .035 flux core wire. I usually start to grind with a 4" angle grinder and finish with the roloc discs on an air die grinder as mentioned above. What works better for you, flush mounted repair panels, or an overlap??
