Where's the factory dummy/idiot oil pressure light?

My truck came bare bones from the factory with 3 guages, but the prev owner put a deluxe 7 guage suburban dash in there.

I want to have an oil pressure dummy light in addition to the electric autometers I just put in.

For now, I've got the oil pressure switch powering the "TEMP" dummy light in the stock fuel guage. Good location, just wrong text. The other light inside the fuel guage is for "BRAKE"

Where was the original dummy oil pressure light? It wouldn't hurt to use the same light for both temp and oil I guess... sort of like a "check guages" light.

Call me anal.

With a gauge no light is required and that`s how trucks were outfitted, either or.

I know that. I want both.

Where did GM put the oil pressure dummy light on the non-guage dash? Was it integrated with the speedo or fuel guage?

Neither, it was in the center pod with the turn signal indicators and the charge light.

That`s what I was indicating. You won`t get both in one. There won`t be a place provided on a "gauge" dash. So,put it where you want.I think it`s a good idea, too. If you don`t have a tach,it would be cool to "hybrid" the two dash types together.

I think a buzzer is a good idea too... possibly more important than a light IMO.

I think there should be a tube rigged up to squirt the last bit of oil into your eye just before the motor siezes.

Ok, all done. I wired up a solenoid on the visor so it swings down and smacks me upside the head anytime oil pressure runs low.

Next question, if you run it low on pressure, say, zero pressure for 5 seconds on a warm motor at cruise rpm and no load, what harm would that cause?

First...
Next...5 seconds?Prolly take a couple few thousand miles of the bearings. In a minute or so gauling (gouges/lost pressure) would occur, bad. When pressure is first lost there is still oil on everything. It takes a bit to dry that off.

Re: Where's the factory dummy/idiot oil pressure light?

I have done the use one light for both in a gauge dash. I used the wires from the non gauge dash harness and they clip right into the gauge harness. I then used the idiot light senders for the non gauge dash wired to the one idiot light wire. The senders just ground out to activate the light. I used a tee at the oil pressure port and used the sender hole in the other head for temp. I use it like a check engine light. If that light were to come on I'd be checking the gauges really fast.

Re: Where's the factory dummy/idiot oil pressure light?

Same here.

Although the connector is the same, the pins are not. I repinned my dash connector to work with the guage dash, even though I'm using seperate wiring for all the lower guages.

I think the fuel guage, signals, and backlighting all had to move to different pin locations to work right. There's a website somewhere that shows it in detail.

You'll be needing a fuel guage now too, i can't remember if anything else gets fried, it's been a while since I did that.
