How to Z notch a frame

Just wantd to know what the steps are to begin z notching a frame. What to look for? what is the best way? and what are the wrong ways? seen alot of people doing this and really like the results


also are chopping the crossmember a good way to go also?

as for me i have a 68 C10 LWB im looking for a slammed frame also

I guess I'll go first There is not really a right way. It all depends on what you are looking for in the finished product. As long as you keep everything aligned and make good penetrating welds it's only limited by your imagination. I Zed mine 3 inches with an angle cut to move the wheels forward an inch then cut an inch off of the front when I dropped the frame horns. I plated the outside of the frame Z with 1/4" plate and used some 1/2" flat bar on top and bottom. I used 2" X 3/16" angle for the horns. Just remember that it's a lot more than just the frame work. You are going to have steering clearance issues and floor pan issues and you'll need to modify or build a new trans. cross member. I sectioned my cross member 1.25" as well and there were more clearance issues there but nothing too difficult. There are some pics of mine in my build thread.
