Rear Axle Line Lock

Yep, that's right.

Installed line lock on the REAR axle.

Here's why:
It's all about doing front digs.

A right turn would go like this.
Kick out rear axle (doubler w/triple sticks)
Depress brake, depress line lock button to the inner tire (two separate buttons)
Release brake and power the front axle with the go pedal
Power through the turn and when straightened out, release the line lock button and go.

I didn't like having to overpower the brakes during the digs and figured if there was a way to only lock the inner tire, turning radius could be thighter.

So here's a couple pics of the install. (not 100% complete yet)

Momemtary contact swithes in console lid
Made a bracket to hold the solenoids

Re: Rear Axle Line Lock

Very cool. Seem like it would also work well when side hilling in the snow.

Re: Rear Axle Line Lock

i would guess that if he's worried about doing front digs, its locked in the rear. but, kicking the power out to the rear axle, even a locked axle will act as if its open.

Not sure it would matter since the rear is disengaged anyway. You would only be putting power to the front alowing the rear to pivot on the locked tire.

Heading to Rausch Creek again on the 20th.

To answer the 'locked' question, yes it's got a Detroit and yes by what I can find out about the Detroit, it will free up the opposing axle during this maneuver.

Re: Rear Axle Line Lock

Nice work, soooo did you buy two line lock kits? I was going to hook up two separate e-brake handles to accomplish this, but your idea seems simplr. Maybe I'll see you at Rausch...J.

No, not two kits just two solenoids.

The rest of the parts are just store bought to comply with my idea of how and where thing's should be installed and functioning.

You think you might make Rausch?
As of right now, I've got an open seat.

Re: Rear Axle Line Lock

works very much the same as a trick brake on a sand rail, in fact, that's what most comp crawlers use.

Thought they were running split pedals.

Pic of em plumbed and wired up.
Reused the existing tubing running to the calipers, doesn't look the best but it's one less connection to have to break.

Jim, not a problem.
