frist how do you guys make a dull/faded alum. grille get it's shine back or do you.
#2. i am trying to get the ing./key switch out of a truck with the harness to use in my project . i have tried pushing the thing in the little hole with the wire and turning the key every way i could think of but it still want come lose.

every time I try to get an ignition switch cylinder out of any old vehicle I screw with it for a few minutes until I am ready to remove it with a hammer. Then the next thing you know it almost falls out.

I`ve used scotch-Brite on real bad grilles with aluminum wheel cleaner.

I think you`re doing the ignition switch right.It`ll come,but can be a mother bear.

Bill,

Here is how to remove the ignition lock cylinder:

Insert the key into the ignition and make sure it turns the ignition on & off. Turn it to the left as far as possible, insert a straightened large paper clip or similar size wire into the hole in face of the lock and depress the spring loaded pin. Turn the lock further to left and it should come out. As you turn the lock further to the left you will have to remove the paper clip or wire or it will bind in the hole. Sometimes you have to wiggle the cylinder a little to get it out.

I have used scotch pads, adn rubbing compoiund, it can really shine up the aluminium with a little elbow grease

yea i agree i like the green ones and they dont take that much elbow grease to get er done

How do you go about getting a lock cylinder out of the dash when you do not have the key? I have a truck that I just bought with no key, but th PO gave me a cylinder and key out of another truck... I have not looked at it yet, but saw the post and thought I would ask.

Bill I Use Steel Wool And Laquer Thinner. Then Clearcoat It. Almost As Good As New

i musta done it the hard way i started sanding with 100 grit pounding out dents ,filing sanding some more more pounding , filing and sanding all the way to 2000 grit then polishing with mothers and waxing. i must have 20 hours into a still less than perfect, but very nice grill
