65 chevy brake light problem

My left brake light won't work. I've replaced the brake light wiring harness, swapped bulbs, and swapped the sockets. Both turn signal lights work and there is no problem with the right brake light. I thought it might be a ground problem, but the turn signal works. Any suggestions?

Re: 65 chevy brake light problem

Sounds like the problem is in the steering column and here is why I think so!
Since you say that the turn signal works but brake light does not, and both brake and turn use the same bulb filament, wires from the turn signal switch to the bulb must be ok. From where the brake light switch goes into the column then thru that switch for the brake light, must be where the problem is! The first thing I would check is both of those half round connecters that come out of the steering column. But most likely the problem is inside the column in the turn signal switch. Hope this helps. GL

Re: 65 chevy brake light problem

Thanks. I have a new wiring harness for the column because I'm having problems with the turn signal cam and decided to replace the wiring and the cam. I hope to change that this weekend.

Re: 65 chevy brake light problem

I got the wiring harness changed this weekend and it's fixed. I'm still kind of scratching my head about why it worked, but on to a few other problems.

Thanks

Re: 65 chevy brake light problem

I had the same problem, couldn't trace it down for the life of me. Same light too, left side. I finally replaced the turn signal cam only becuase my turn signal lever wouldn't stay engaged. Once the new cam was in I did the function test and now my left brake light works. I don't know how I did it but it is done, now move onto other things.
