Shoulder Harness set-up

Hello all,

I need to get seat belts in my blazer, I would like to try shoulder harness with the seat belts, so my guess is that I would need to mount the upper part of the belt to a bracket, tab or the side of roll bar or cage. just wondering if I any one is using shoulder belts. Great site and happy to be hear, Thanks you for any response.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

1ST From West TN

2ND With the top on there is a access point for shoulder belts,
obviously with it off a roll bar is pretty much your only option.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Thanks for the response,

Didn't know the holes in the side of top above the seat are for that, may go that route don't have a bar installed yet.

I'll try to figure out how to get pics and get them on, I'm sure this place is going to be great and I have learned plenty jut reading previous info. I'll have more questions for sure.

Thanks again

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Welcome to the board from Seattle.

Several guys have installed late model seats with integrated belts/shoulder harnesses. There was at least one board member who created some custom brackets to mount shoulder straps to his roll bar. Either way, you'll need to make sure the floor is reinforced at the mounting points (if you have to create custom seat mounts and where the roll bar is bolted down.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

This maybe a dumb question, was there optional shoulder belts from the factory? If so, does anyone have a picture of them? Just curious since the holes are there. Why would Chevy put mounting holes for nothing.

Oh, and welcome to the board.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

I believe there was an option, but I've never seen them.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

I found an ad in Truck Builder Mag for retrofit shoulder harness.

There ad says they have harness for Chevy Truck, they may have something for a Blazer or can make one. May have to call the company, as their website only shows classic mustang.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

I got mine from Wesco Performance. They have alot of options regarding style, colors, & mounting options. Either way you want...race style or more original looking. My opinion: I wouldn't go with the quick links mister.freeze has...Good idea, but I've seen too many of those things pull loose.
Don't have pics of mine on this computer at work, but will try & take some tonight & post tomorrow.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

i used '04 trailblazer seats with integrated belts. i love 'em, but similar seats from a late-model convertible would have been better (they would fold forward better for rear access...)

there are prolly pics around of my install, but couldn't find them on this machine...

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Here is where I anchored mine. The holes for the lap belt part were existing threaded holes that the eye bolt happened to go right through then I added a big fender washer to the back too. I had to drill a hole for the shoulder belt..this seemed to be a good spot being double floor thick there too (also added fender washer). The seats are out right now to avoid grinding/welding spark burns but you can get the idea.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Thank you all,

I wouldn't have expected that much response, great options but I want to stay pretty much simple lap belt and over shoulder for driver and passenger.

If possible mount in the holes in the top.

Thanks

If anyone can help me with posting pics, need help, I struck out again.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Thanks All,

looks like those set ups work awesome, want to stay pretty simple I'm so looking at some after market belts for close to stock application, can the shoulder mount part of the belt attach to this part of the top?

Thanks

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

In my opinion, a seat belt SHOULD NOT be mounted to fiberglass or even sheet metal. You should have a solid mount.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

Guys are using S10 belts in these year trucks to get shoulder straps. The factory ones were rare and rarer, now. This means...ka-ching!!Like $500,if you findthem and they`d be your color.I wonder if these vintage seat belt places, like SnakeOyl,could make a set.The originals used seperate buckles, kinda clunky.

Re: Shoulder Harness set-up

My 69 Camaro has shoulder belts as an option. So has my parents 70 monte. I have never taken down either set. I would think if you really wanted a set that looked factory. They would be more available in those areas because more were built
