Post ARGGG! sound question 6.5s in the kicks or 6x9s in the door

this is what i found when i took the doorpanels and carpet off the doors. i thought the doors were solid behind the carpet but it was just a metal backing.

now i bought some nice kickpanels with 6.5 speakers in them. but looks like they need a bit of modification since i have a non a/c truck. im starting to wonder if i should just sell them and stick some 6x9s in the doors.im gonna do a custm door panel that goes all the way to the bottom of the door so i guess having the speakers there wont be too ugly.

what do you guys think would sound best? 6.5s in the kicks or the 6x9s in the doors? ill also have one of those dual speakers under the dash for highs and then a 10" sub under the seat later.

also i have a bunch of foam stuffed at the bottom of the door? is this for sound deadning or from the previous speaker install?

if i do go with the 6x9s in the doors do have to do any sort of weather protection for them?

what's the problem with it being a non A/C truck? You can get acoustic foam baffles for the back of your speakeers if you put them in the doors... this will block moisture. Crutchfield sells them.

the little lever and knob that opens the vents on the kick panels is in the way. i can cut a little hole out of the kickpanels to get them to fit. also the passenger side floorpanel buldges out a bit at the top rear of the kick panel, i would need to cut abotu 2" off the top.

do a/c trucks also have the levers to pull and open the vent doors?

kinda seems like a bad design if it interferes with the vent levers... looks like there would be enough room to position the speaker lower on the kick panel to avoid the problem... the designer must have done his work with the vents and levers removed.... oops.

hymm didnt know that.

yea you would have to unbolt the lever, place the kickpanel in place and then just mount the lever back on the kick panels, drilling a hole thought the plastic or cutting out a little square for it to mount. nothing too serious. i just figure since my doors are already cut i might as well just put a speaker there i guess..

I have 6" round speakers in my doors and the sound is really great. However every time I get in and out of the truck I have to remember not to knock off the speaker cover with my left foot. Best of luck with yours!
