Re: Which GM crate engine would you buy?
I think it will be more than enough power. The one in my truck now is probably barely pushing 200 hp

I wondered about that. Several ebay dealers were offering $100 off with a core... why would GM want a core for a brand new motor? Does GM sell REBUILT motors too, or do they farm those out?? It's my understanding these motors are BRAND NEW, correct? I wish this place was close enough to drive too. I could give them my motor and only pay $1,275! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...030498890&rd=1

Re: Which GM crate engine would you buy?
The HT383 was advertised in a truck mag when it first hit the market and was advertised for $1900 through one of the performance parts dealers I saw it in a summit under new products and they wanted almost $3k my dads work is a GMPPP dealer I will check with him on an excact price for the motor, I'll post it in a thread in a couple of days. Its and awsome motor and I would like two of them one for the 68 and 97. The add says no need for cpu reprogramming either it will ajust to the motor with no problems for you guys that have a 96-99, not sure on tbi models since they dont use a mass air flow sensor. None the less a good carb on this thing and you got plenty of power for the street with good reliabilty and drivability.

Re: Which GM crate engine would you buy?
I'm not sure where you guys are seeing the price @ $1900 for the HT 383. According to Sallee Chevrolet.....
P/N 12499101 GM HT 383 (long block) = 3.80 stroke; 4.00 bore, hyd roller cammed, vortec heads for $4095 P/N 12499106 HT 383 (partial assembly) = assembled short block w/o cam, lifters, timing chain, & cam sprocket for $3350. This means no vortec heads either which is a big part of the torque this pkg is capable of. If you guys have different info, please do share....

Re: Which GM crate engine would you buy?
PO installed a 260HP Goodwrench 350 in my '71 C10 Burb. It's got about 40K on it with no problems. Runs fine on 87, plenty of power. I get 9-10 mpg w/EDL 1406 carb, EDL Performer intake and stock (single) exhaust. I do mostly stop & go driving and typically pi$$ off traffic by accelerating reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaal slooooooooooooooooow ( ). Highway mpg is better, but haven't driven on HW long enough to know what it is. Paperwork says 3 yr/36k warranty applies if the vehicle originally came with a 350. Can't remember price but I think $1200-$1400 is about right.

Re: Which GM crate engine would you buy?
That is the thing I found out about mine when I bought it, the warrenty varies depending on it's use and what the vehicel came with. Since my truck was not originally a 350, the warrenty was only for 1 year 12,000.
Redneck, I believe some of the GM performance engines are actually bored out/reconditioned used blocks so to speak. If you are not reusing the stuff from your old engine (carb, manifold etc.) You may find it cheaper/better in the long run to get a GM turn key engine like a ZZ4 or the 290HP model. Everything is there for you ready to go. I have not priced them lately, but you start buying carb, intake, Dist, fuel pump, ect.....it adds up.
