Anybody have a hideaway hitch?
Anybody have a hideaway hitch?
I need to put a hitch on my 87 so I can pull my car trailer (6000 pounds). It has a stepside bed and will soon have a factory chrome smooth bumper. I want to find a hitch that I can use with a flip down license plate. Does anyone have one of these or know where to find one?

I have one from AIM Industries (LAME)It did not fit had to 3/16" off of one side of the thing to make it work. It wouldn't fit between the frame. After much modification it does work and is very stout and the best part it is hidden in back of the plate. I would look elsewhare as I will not buy anything from them again (lame)

Summit Racing sells them but for some strange reason they have a 3500 pound max capacity while other hitches for other trucks have a 5000 pound rating.
I know of no other retailers that sell them for our trucks...you could check in the truck mags out there as see if you come up lucky. -Jeff |

Has anyone seen one of the hitches from Summit?

If you know anybody that is a good welder, you can modify a standard hitch to fit like you want. I did this to my brother's Dakota, so that the receiver portion was behind the license plate. You can pick up a standard hitch for around $89 at Wal-Mart, and cheaper at other places.

www.mar-k.com has a hide away hitch. Kinday price too. I need one too. I hate not having the option to tow. Actually I want it so I put a bar in on bad weather days. I want to be able to slide in a 3" round pipe with the words "I dare you to hit me" :p I just hate getting rearend again. Fixing the roll pan twice and getting three new taigates gets old quick. Cars and trucks just have a bad tendancy to get up close to my trucks rear. It should kiss my @$$ if you get any closer. :p
