Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

Got to replace driver side front fender on the 86 I'm going to buy. Trying to find one in the junk yard is almost useless. Guess I'll wind up going with an after market replacement. I was wondering if any of you have used the fenders that GMC Paul sells. How do they fit, quality, etc.
Thanks.

Goodmark stampings are the better of them, from the ones I sell. I can save you shipping if you can pick them up at Goodmark in GA. I sold some the N2TRUX recently if you want a independant opinion.

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

I've installed them and they require no more shimming or adjustment than a used or NOS OEM front fender replacing a original.
Theres definately more than 3 companies making these though, and with all the reboxing going on its hard to tell from some sources who actually stamped the part.

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

Chris, I looked at Goodmarks site last night when I saw this post. It doesn't show that they make the HD series fender for 81-87's. If they do, then I can attest to the Goodmark HD series fender being of good quality.

I recently purchased a 73-80 Goodmark HD fender from Capt Kaos and was impressed with the quality of the stamping as well as the gauge of steel. It actually felt heavier than a GM fender although I didn't weigh them to verify.

Roger and Keith (n2billet) from Stoked Out Specialties gave it a thumbs up as well.....

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

Crawdad, if you buy and install one please take pictures because I am curious as to the fitment of them myself. I bought a used aftermarket fender at the swap meet here in Springfield last month.

I'm not sure who stamped it, but it has Chinway stamped in it right where the hood hinge bolts on. It fits fairly well for an aftermarket piece, and is very hard to tell it's not a GM fender. I had to do some shimming and adjusting to make it fit, but I am pleased with the fitment, especially considering what it is.

I need to do just a bit more tweaking to make it fit perfect, but it looks very good asit is. You might look for fenders with the Chinway stamp on them. I'm not sure if all fenders with the Chinway stamp are as good as the one that I have on the right hand side of my truck, but maybe it will give you a starting point, and something to look for when buying. Here are a few pictures of the fender for you to look over. It was represented to me as a GM fender, but it wasn't GM. Like I said though, it does fit very well for an aftermarket piece and with a bit more tweaking, I think I can make it look perfect. ...Joe

I can take closer pics of the gaps, etc. if you want to see just how close the fitment is. Just let me know. Hope this helps you a little bit.

What is the HD series that Goodmark makes Ken? I thought that they only made one stamping. Do they still make these in HD? Just wondering after I looked at this postfor the second time. Don't know how I missed it the first time. ...Joe

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

I read that too quickly and thought it said 76.. The 81-87 fenders are the same as everyone elses, the 73-80 Goodmark version is a different stamping.

Just an idea, can you find a rustfree one? I think I can get one for you. The afermarket will work but be patient putting it on.

I found an add for two of them this morning. Sent the guy an email and I'm waiting to hear from him. His ad said they were for an 80-87. Are all of those models the same as far as the way the fenders look/fit?

Goodmark recently came out with a heavy duty or HD series fender.
Funny, I just looked again, and it appears that they changed the designation. They aren't calling it HD and it is the only one listed now. Anyway they only show it for 73-80.

Thanks Ken! I eventually want to build another 73-80 truck someday. I have to finish my 86 first though. I wonder if GM certified these as GM Restoration parts like the cowl hoods? I have a Goodmark cowl hood and am very pleased with the fit and finish of it. If these fenders are as good as their hoods are, it would be a lot cheaper way to get good fitting fenders since the GM ones are getting scarce and very expensive. ...Joe

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

I don't think they are GM Certified, but they are a good replacement. I looked for quit some time trying to find decent sheet metal to convert my 82 Blazer. You can still find good driver side fenders, but it's "very" hard to locate decent passenger side. The problem being they rust at the rear from a/c run off, and up front from battery seepage.

This was a very cost effective alternative. Now if they would just make a good "stock" hood.

Re: Anybody installed a GMC Paul front fender?

Actually they didn't just come out, they have been selling the improved 73-80 version for about 1.5 years now. They dropped the standard fender once the improved was was made. Goodmark no longer pays for their parts to have the GM certified stamp.
