Fuel Tank Capacity
What is the stock capacity of the fuel tank in a 71? I'm looking to do a swap and the one i want is an 18 gallon tank. by the time i get to where i need to go to do the swap for the next year and a half i'll only be driving fairly short distances an hour each way at most. so would an 18 gallon tank be fine?

Re: Fuel Tank Capacity
I believe the tank is 19 gal. so you'd actually be going to a smaller tank. I've got a tank out of a '73 Suburban out back. It's 25 gal. and I can go 2 weeks of daily driving before I need to refill.

Re: Fuel Tank Capacity
all the books and owners manuals say aprox 21 gallons in all cab mounted tanks, however, there seems to be a lot of 16 gallon ones too, but they were mostly in the 67 and 68 trucks from what I've seen.

Re: Fuel Tank Capacity
alright thanks, the tank i'm swapping to is a 67-69 firebird/camaro tank, because i can mount it like the guy in "back in black" did. so i can have the fill tank behind the license plate. 18 gallon tank should be plenty if i'm only losing approximately 3 gallons
