One Ton Brake Help please - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi all. I picked up an 87 30 4x4 5.7FI this weekend at a local auction.

One owner, 84000 miles. A little cancer, but not bad.

It has a brake issue, and the mechanic that diagnosed it told me it was the proportioning valve. Unfortunately, no parts stores seem to list them. Anyone been through this? Know where I can pick one up online? Is there another style I can switch to without ridding the truck of the hydraboost? Any help is appreciated, and I thank you in advace.

BTW the truck came with a Boss V-plow!!

When replacing brake lines on my truck (blew both fronts and rears when testing the hydroboost conversion) I couldn't get the old lines off the proportioning valve, and routing the lines would be a major PITA anyways, so I opted for a simple T-ee block for the front brakes and a manual brake bias adjusting valve for the rears, this way when I tow something heavy I can increase the pressure to the rear brakes, while still being able to drive empty in rain and stuff on half-pressure so to not lock up the rear wheels.
