What do I need to know for new rims? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Now that our dollars are at par ive been looking on ebay to buy some new rims for my truck. Will the newer style 6 lug wheels fit on? or is the center hole wrong? also are the offsets something to worry about I dont know about offsets or anything so I wouldnt know what im looking for

I can tell you that the center hole is too small & won't fit over our hubs

I don't know about the off-set, but I think it would prolly bring the wheel to far in

Make sure the lug nuts work well with the rim you choose for your truck. Getting to many different types can make for a headache.

the center hole is too small and the newer (88+) wheels have a high positive offset the will move the tire in and can lead to clearance issues. I used to use the Z-71 style on nissan and other 6 lug imports as a cheap alternative to custom because they tucked better than those trucks factory wheels and bolted right on.

The center bores can be milled ( did it a lot for the nissan apps) but unless you're looking to narrow your track width I'd avoid them.

thanks guys, so am I either looking at a custom set? or should I look for a set that would fit a 73-87 4X4 thats what my rallies are from right now and they seem to work great

here are some pics of 2001 Suburban rims on my 69
Tire size p265 70 r16
Rims needed 1 1/4"spacers to fit and still rubbed in the back
p-235 70 r16 had no rubbing I can get more pics if it helps

Be careful with the spacers. they've made huge improvments over the first styles available but still a compromise for high horsepower or torque apps. If you do choose spacers get the billit aluminum ones that have a second set of studs. I have a set that I bought for my burb but never installed. The only snag I ran into was the studs in the spacers were 12mmx1.25 metric threads as opposed to the 1/2 stock on the burb. Decided against using the spacers for 2 reasons... 1 wanted them for something stupid ( install a spinner kit I got for free when I was a wheel salesman) and 2. wheels no longer tucked which was my ultimate goal ( layin frame)
