You guys were right...

I installed the 68 wheel on the tilt column last night...WAY too big.
I guess I'll go with the S-10 wheel for now.
I hate it when i ask for advice, go against it, and discover i was wrong.
Oh well.
Oh, And as far as that tilt install....man, what a PITA. It was easier to install the column in my wife's 92 S-10 blazer....no joke. I couldn't even imagine doing it with the front cip on there.
Oh well...its in there now.

Grrr, yes you did. And like I figured, with the tilt, I'll be able to see the lower guages with no problem.
Sweet.

Looks good Andy. From what I see, why worry about seeing gauges when they don't exist.

Looks good. I think the s-10 wheel goes good in your truck. I want to try one in mine, but only if I can get one for cheap. It looks like your truck is coming together pretty well. As of today, the only thing on my frame past the back of the cab is the exhaust. It was eaiser than I thought to take it apart, but I have a feeling is will be a while before it gets driven anywhere. lol

How did you manage the neutral safety switch on the tilt Andy?

The S-10 wheel is a couple to a few inches smaller...but the dish is less too.
As for the Neutral safety switch...I've never had one, nor back up lights before, so i just deleted it. Yeah, i know...shame on me.
As for the swap being a PITA, just the way they engineared the whole set up. A clamp in the column on the firewall, a ring on the rubber gasket on the inside part of the fire wall...Just a bunch of annoying things that snowballed on an already ticked off guy working by flash light.
As for the 69 - 72 wheel going on...it'll go on there no problem, but you probably won't like it.

I agree on the column swap Andy. It is a big pain if it is just you doing it. I did mine in the daylight in decient wetaher. I would have really been POd doing it under your conditions. Guess I'll be smarter next go round since I supposedly will remember what to look for.

68 steering wheel

I reread post and now I read that overall diameter of stock wheel is objectionable (I prefer stock wheel diameters and looks). Is that your case or is the base of the steering wheel larger that the column where it mates up? I am planning on a stock 67/68 wheel on 69-72 tilt column. Has anyone done this and have pics?

thanks.

the colar is fine, just the wheel diameter is too much, and the dish is too much too.
Maybe it was like that with out the tilt...I don't know. I've driven a total of .5 mile with the stock sized wheel in these trucks.
