Metal?
on www.yearone.com, www.lmc.com and the brothers website they have metal but I was always told the stock metal was better
but after that saturday night my truck hit the pole it was mostly rust and bondo any help will be nice to clear it up a little bit

Your best bet is find a vendor near you to save you on the freight charges. Most sell the same items as LMC..etc...
Check out the board vendors (Support those who support us) on the main 67-72chevytrucks.com main page.

IMO if you are building a lightweight drag truck go with aftermarket metal. All the aftermarket stuff I have seen is a lot lighter guage than OEM metal. But like said above shipping charges may make stock stuff pricy depending on where you can locate some. Now if you lived on the left coast like I do good stock front fenders are about $30 at pic-n-pull.

I used to believe that this was true (back when the metal came from tiawan and was cheap and thin) However I just looked at an original set next to a replacement panel and the replacement panel (aftermarket) was just as thick as the OEM that had been sand blasted and was bare metal. Fitment is where aftermarket panels fall short

theyll fit, but you cant just bolt them on and expect everything to fit exact. youll need to...what? i dunno drill other holes and move it up or down, re weld the mounts? not sure on that one i just know they'll bolt on, just wont look exact bang on

Nothing just bolts on when it comes to body work. Even OEM requires tweaking. Just sometimes some take more than other. I have original used pieces on mine and it is testing my patience at time for fitting, but that is part of the autobody world.

well steel hasnt gotten crappier over the past 30 years, if anything its gotten better. most of them are a bit more of a gauge than original ones i think

I was told by my dad that everything that is kept "original" is better dont know what he meant by it. such as the metal, paint, interior, etc.

well thats for appraisal value, if everything is original and a complete restoration then it'll be worth more, if its all remade parts, it wont be worth as much, but im bagging my truck and all that stuff so it wont be anything close to the original model so i dont care if they're aftermarket or original, just as long as they fit right

It seams that the gage isnt the trouble any more its the whay they fit. some of the rockers you get are a little shorter and need to be streched when you use them. and I think a few popel have said the GMC grill doesnt fit well. I would think the quality of the steel would be better now a days as long as the gage is the same . I guess only time will tell we will have to wait and see how the after marcket parts have lasted in 30 years.
