Painting advise

Hi to all:
Well, I did some readings, here on paint section and some books. Now I did some practice and this is my problem: paint looks dull. It is my problem not the quality of the paint (although I bought some cheap paint for practice)since in some spots it looks very nice and shiny. somehow I think I have problem with adjusting the trigger. The shiny spots are easily turn to runs!!. I try to keep my hand steady and at the same distance but even the clear coat looks dull ( I tried few coats of paint few days ago and today, I tried some clear coat). Any inputs?
thanks

Re: Painting advise

Paint may be going on too dry. It's a balancing act between too dry and the runs.

Is is BC/CC? If so, the base coat will be dull. The clear coat will buff out to the high gloss.

Tell us more about what you're using.

Re: Painting advise

The paint is Acrylic Enamel. I am just practicing on a door which I took out my parents 1999 ford escort whcih I believe had Acrylic paint from factory. Based of the instruction on the website (I got it from carpaintonline.com) I didn't have to use reducer or hardner. Even they said I don't have to use clear coat unless I want longer lasting paint. The clear coat was from them as well.
No what is BC/CC that you asked?
My paint gun is a cheap gravity feeder conventional.

Re: Painting advise

You need to lay on some clear let it tack up good (time may vary) recoat & repeat until it all looks shiny. it's not necessarily a one shot deal.
