The 73-74 grill is deeper, so yes, you need the middle and side supports.

You need the complete latch assembly, and the outer grill mounts

Here are the pieces you need for the 73-74 grille to work... The last 2 pics show the vertical support with 2 mounting locations and the outer location for mounting.

Chris- Are "all" of the places I have circled mounting tabs? How do the brackets attach to the core support? Do you know if they are different for a 73-74 GMC grill?

The 4 in the center are made into the supports, I can verify if you need. This differs from the 75-80 version as the bolt to the large area adjacent to those pieces.

The outers singles bolt onto the support behind the headlight.

There are also 2 more in the center of the core support that is specific to the 73-74 grilles. GMC and Chevy are the same.

Re: what all i need to put a 73 grill in a 79 truck

If memory serves me correct, the plastic clips for the grille attach screws are unique to the '73-74 grilles. I found some NOS ones on ebay. The '73-74 grille is my favorite of all the 73-87 styles.

N2Trux: In the areas you circled, the brackets adjacent to the headlights are bolted to the core support, and the ones close to the radiator opening are part of the support structure that comes directly up from the core support mounts. I just looked at my spare '73 core support, and I'm almost certain that the 73-74 core supports are different from the later years

OK so I need a set of the outer brackets, and will need to make something for the inner mounts. The core support I am using came from an 80 Blazer which is the style I wanted for the inside hood release.

Just a follow up, they are made into the core support. There should be 2 bolt holes on the channel that you could put a nutset in to bolt what you need to the core support.

That is correct chevyresto, Attach clips are specific to the 73-74.

Re: what all i need to put a 73 grill in a 79 truck

Hmm...maybe this whole ordeal explains why the previous owner of my 78 installed the 73-74 cheyenne super grill just two screws to the center support. I'm guessing he got the correct center support and had enough of it.
