Original with TH400?
I have buy a truck and and I have a th350 under but the shift indicator have D-L2-L1. I know that the shift ind. is one for th400. Normally is it writted on the spid sticker if I have a TH400. I think that's optionnal for my truck.

Re: Original with TH400?
Your truck was originally a 250 inline and 3 speed on the column. The column may well be out of a Th400 truck... I've never heard of the print on the indiactor being one way or another from TH350 to TH400 vehicles.
If it had a TH350 of TH400 originally, it'd have M49 option, that one code is for both trannys. |

Re: Original with TH400?
That's interesting to know. On the GM cars of the smae ear, they use a M38 code for TH350 and M49 for TH400. I always thought it was strange that every auto truck I have has the M49 code. I thought it was strange that a one of my trucks is a bare bones 307 and I thought it came with a TH400 because of the code. There is a TH350 in the now, and I thought it was changed out. Good to know that.

Re: Original with TH400?
Couldn't his truck have been a 307 truck. None of my factory V8 trucks have anything on the SPID, if it was the standard V8 - only the ones with 327, 350, 396, 402. The same thing with the 292. If its not a 250 truck, it will have 292 on the SPID.

Re: Original with TH400?
There's been a few M38 auto tranny truck pop up on here from time to time, but it isn't listed in any of the books, and both of my Th350 trucks had M49 listed.
The first 2 digits of the VIN on that truck is CS, so it is an inline truck. Since there is no option listed (292) that makes it a 250 truck. CE trucks were V-8, with 307 being standard and never listed, and CM on GMC trucks would be V-6 gas motors, with the 305 being base, and the 351 being optional. |

Re: Original with TH400?
no way no how. That's a 1/2 ton truck.
Longhorn model numbers are; C/20; CS21034 CE21034 C/30; CS31034 CE31034 The CE is V8 powered, the CS is inline powered. That truck is an 1971, inline 250, 3 speed on the column, long wheelbase, fleetside, 2 wheel drive truck |
