1 ton chassis under the burb

I was looking at my pile of parts for the burb and got thinking it is going to have a 1ton drive train why not make it a true 1 ton and shorten a 1ton chassis down to fit the burb. What do you guys think?

I would'nt mess with it. I don't think a frame swap would be worth the time, unless you have major cancer. I'd just weld in X braces if you are looking for less twist.

Re: 1 ton chassis under the burb

What year is the 1 ton chassis and what is the intended use of the Burb?

Re: 1 ton chassis under the burb

I think its a 72. Poor burb will get abused Im sure. This thing has a lot of waight to throw around and will be used for camping and as a recovery vehical for a buggy when I get around to building one. i was thinking if the 6.2 ever goes up in smoke that Im puting in it the next step will be a 6bt so this would give me a better frame for when that day comes. The burb is coming off the frame nomatter what so every thing can be blasted down and painted plus it will be easier to figure out the new drive line with the body off I have to mount the divirced 205 and the NV 4500 in it so I want to make all the new cross members with the body off.

Re: 1 ton chassis under the burb

How much different is the one ton frame your looking at using?

Alot beefier?

You said 'cut it down' , aren't burb and truck wheelbases the same already?

Re: 1 ton chassis under the burb

The 1 ton frame is 8in tall instead of 6 and the 1 tons have a 133 wheel base and the burb and LWB trucks have a 127. The wheel base is probly close enough I could work with it. I have the axles set back 1in with 0 rates any way and moved forward 1in in the front.

Thanks for the additional information. I like the idea of you using the 1 ton frame with the Diesel engine. I say go for it and be sure to document the project as you go!

Re: 1 ton chassis under the burb

Keep the K30 frame around anyway. They have a thicker cross section than 3/4 or 1/2 ton frames, in case you ever build another buggy or something else.
