I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

After recently picking up an almost free motorhome (It was gutted, got it just for the engine) I'm thinking I want a 67 to 72 Chevy or GMC Motorhome. Anybody got one they want to sell? Any leads?

Thanks

Oh, the pic is just one I found online, hopefully the owner won't mind.

There was a 70 Chevy CST w/buckets, 402BB, 75000 miles for $6800 west of Springfield Ohio on route 40 for sale. Next time I drive buy I will check to see if it is still availble.

Re: I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

My 69 GMC flatbed was orginally a motorhome. When I got it, the motorhome part of it was so dry rotted it wouldn't have been worth it to restore. It's amazing how fast a sawzall will take something like that down in an afternoon. If the situation would ever to arise again? It would be really nice to have one completely restored

Where at? I live right by US 40, between Springfield and I-75.

Re: I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

Hey Ohio Dan...
If I remember right...when you are going I-70 W take the 675 exit towards New Carlise/Tipp City. Go west on 571 and it will be on the right/south side. I think near the 201/40 intersection. As a matter of fact it might be near the golf course. When I said west of Springfield on I-40 I got my wires crossed. The truck was in descent shape and I thought a very good price for the condition and shape. Hope this helps. Geeeee I just noticed you have a New Carlise address. The truck should be within a 10-15 drive of you. Let me know if it's still there? Just curious?

70Cct, Thanks.

John Fabris, Thanks.

Anybody know gas mileage on one of those? For calcualtion purposes.

Would 8 mpg be in the ballpark?

I did see one that had an overdrive in addition to the 4 speed, how much of an improvement is that?

Check the Craigslist site for Arizona. Seems there was one there a few months back. I don't recall which city, but if you go to AZ it'll give you several choices and just do a search. Also look under www.crazedlist.org or something like that.

It's funny you bring this up as just today I was talking to a local 67-72 parts supplier about a killer deal he got on one.

I almost bid on one in California a few months ago. Was kicking myself since it went for only $2,500

Re: I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

Thanks Brad and Rickstruck.

I've got a lead on one in St. Louis, worried it might be too much of a project for the asking price. Hopefully I'll get some pics in the next day or so.

If anyone has any more leads, keep them coming.

Thanks all.

Heres another.....
Free 28' motorhome. Big block gas engine. For parts, salvage or scrap weight. If you can haul it, you can have it.

Re: I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

I have two of these 72 chassis mount Camper/MoHomes, one with 402 BB and 4 speed and one with 350SB/T400. Both are from the SW and rust-free. They run out great and are a joy to drive, with lower CG than almost anything similar. As for gas mileage, I am on a trip with the 402 BB model and just today checked it in moderate mountain driving and got 11.7 MPG. That is with conservative driving. It would depend on the rear gear ratio, but adding an overdrive might help. This one is geared such that an OD unit would probably not be cost-effective and could result in too much extra shifting in hilly country.

CCCC, you wanna sell the one with the small block? If not, any advice you might have for me in my search?

Re: I've been looking for one of these: 67-72 Motorhome

Hello BADSAM:
I had never thought of selling the 72 SB because the cab and running gear are so clean and tight (less than 40K actual miles on this truck) -although the truck hood and some of the camper siding have some hail dings. I will give your inquiry some thought, and please send me a PM with any questions ideas on price.

As for searching, these rigs are still availble here and there - try the RV section of TRADERONLINE and look for both Chevs and GMCs in 67-72, and also try Craiglist in major areas - although I would stay with the south and SW for the most art.
The one that you showed in the pic was in Oregon and had a 2 speed OD type unit installed with the 4 speed. I was interested but never could get up there to see it. Is it still FS?
