Max Lowering
I am lookin into lowering my 84 c10. I was wonderin what is the farthest i can lower the rear without needing to do a c-notch? I am guessin it is just 4 inches but i would like to be sure. also, if anyone has a pic of their truck dropped either 3/4 or 2/4, i would really appreciate seein them. thanks

5" with a flip kit is as low as you can go with a flip kit, and not have to c-notch it. i dont know about leaving the axle below the leaves though...

with a hanger/shackle kit you can go 4" w/o a c-notch, but if you flip it, it is strongly advisable to c-notch. even with a hanger/shackle kit you won't have much travel. i've done a few and always was asked to do the c-notch after a short time. lots of axle banging. you can go the 4" route and add a helper airbag setup with good results, so that when you need to tow/haul you can air up and go, and keep a little in the bags to stop bottoming out. i had this setup on a 92 extended cab for about 8 years before i sold it and i loved it. i also took the overload spring out to get a little lower, and because it is useless after you lower 4" or more.

i used to have an 84 i dropped it 5/6 used spindles and springs in the front and just flipped the rear i also had a 22 ft boat i pulled with the truckso went with air shocks in the back worked great and rode great too one peice of advise though dont cut the coils buy the 2 inch drop and i used 3inch bell tech spindles dont have any picts but looked great in my eyes had 15*8 all the way around with 295/50s on back and 235/60 in front it was a sweet stance ohh and one more word of advice if you have headers on the truck and the collectors hang down trash em and get some 82 camaro hooker comp shorty you will have to nocth the frame on driver side to clear but well worth it every time i hit a speed bump i dented my old collectors...hope this helps...ohh and as far as the flip you will not have to notch just make sure you get the right degree shim for the rear end........steve

i agree that air shocks will work, but they don't and never will give you the ride that an air bag will. i've had both on a few different rides. i still say, if ya flip.....notch.

Had a flipped rear on an 83 and rarely if ever bottomed out on the frame. Still I would go with the air shocks to raise it when towing. Air bags are expensive and yes they do ride much better, but the most cost effective way is to flip it.

I had a 3/4" drop for about 1-year, and it bottomed out allot! It rode great on the highway though! I would notch the frame if you install a flip kit.
