wide rear rubber

Current I'm running 275/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's all around on 8 inch rims. When the rear tires wear out I was considering getting some 10 inch wide rims for the rear to see if I can get the rear to hook a little harder. The only tire I can find for the rear is a 295/50/15 which has a shorter sidewall. I was hoping to find something like a 295/60/15 but it seems that isn't available. I wanted to keep the same sidewall profile as the 275/60's, but just have it be wider because I like the current look and stance. I've seen some old Radial T/A's on 10 inch wide rims that had a taller sidewall profile but I guess they aren't made anymore ?

Just wondering what my options are (if any) and if anyone has pics of 10 inch rims and rubber on the rear, that would be cool too. Thanks.

Re: wide rear rubber

If you want taller, they were making a Radial T/A in a 295/70.

Re: wide rear rubber

I am going to get some Mickey Thompson Indy S/S tires for mine when the time comes. Check out the N50-15 here -

Yes it's a bias ply, but my truck will primarily be an around town cruiser. And with a 11.8" tread width (equivelent to a 345/50-15) of soft compound rubber, it should hook very well.

Re: wide rear rubber

I run 275/60/15 BFG's on the front(8" rim), and 325/50/15 BFG drag radials on the rear(10" rim). I wish I could get the 325/50/15 in a regular t/a, but either way, it looks real sharp

Ya I have always been a fan of wide rubber. I like those Mickey Thompson Indy S/S tires that got posted above.

Re: wide rear rubber

Although they are smaller, I run 295/50/15s on the rear of my 84 truck, my son's 86 truck and also on my 91 daily driver. I changed my speedo gears to get my speedos right and the downsizing actually gave me better acceleration . The wheels that I mounted the 295s on are 8" rims and I have no problems.

Re: wide rear rubber

Just one more quick question, what backspacing should I be looking for when I get 10 inch wide rims for the rear ? Just want it to tuck under the fenderwell with no rubbing issues.
