C/K frame difference?

How hard would it be to turn a good ol' 1976 C25 GMC (3/4 ton 2wd) Camper Special into a K25? Are there big differences in frame, crossmembers, oil pans, etc? Or is it a pretty basic swap?

Input! Need input!

Thanks all!

Sam

Re: C/K frame difference?

it takes so many parts that it is better to have a donor truck on hand --- but if you have a 4wd donor truck - it would be easier to do a body swap

Really? I can't imagine! I guess I've seen too many solid swaps done in off road vehicles to let this one slide!

Re: C/K frame difference?

There was a thread on here where a guy had a 2WD truck and a 4x4 Blazer. When he was done, he had a 4x4 truck and a 2WD blazer, both fully functional.

Re: C/K frame difference?

Yeah, I know it is totally doable, as long as the basic structure, that being the frame, is identical. You just have to first be sure that your front axle mounts are in the right spot, along with the suspension mounts, etc. From there, as long as that is all correct in geometry, it is pretty basic! Bolt up Transfer case, start laying out drivelines.

Re: C/K frame difference?

The Frame RAILS are the same, the mounting points aren't going to be all there, and you will need every bracket from the 4x4 (including the rear)

If you get a donor 3/4T frame (which you will need for all the parts) it would be MUCH simpler just taking the sheetmetal off and swapping it then putting all the parts on there in my opinion.

Re: C/K frame difference?

i attemped this swap and it was NOT possible. I attemped to used a 3/4 ton
4x4 suburban front suspension and a 86 3/4 ton 2wd pickup frame. The frame rails were different. I have tread on here somewhere with pictures. I'll post the link later. Whether this is only 3/4 ton frames or the suburban frame?

Impossible is a rather bold statement don't you think?

It's entirely possible with the right parts, skills, etc.

But as Captkaos said, it's probably easier in the long run to just swap out the body, etc.

Why not just either sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd, or just buy another truck? I can't see a project like this being worth the effort really.

Frame rails on a Burb are NOTHING like a pickup, but the front section from the front cab mount forward ARE the same. Same rules go for a Blazer.

Re: C/K frame difference?

the cross member from the suburban was not the same height as the frame rail on the pickup and I couldn't not complete swap. I'm sure there may be another cross member. For my instance and with the parts available to me, the swap was not possible. I bet the 1/2 ton 4x4 parts truck i got now would of worked. Check out the first page of my swap to see the differences.

Re: C/K frame difference?

I meant the pieces for the front section. Not the actual frame. As in pieces required to make the frame 4x4...

1/2 and 3/4 Burbs use the same frame rails.
