Just bought a 65 K-10 whadda ya think?

This is one of those good news/bad news stories....
I have a life long friend who had a stroke about 4 years ago. He was a mechanic and a true classic truck collector. He had one truck since 1979 which was always my favorite (this one.) He called me last week and asked me if I wanted to buy it. Because of his stroke, he doesn't have much use of his left leg or arm. And I guess there's not much chance he'll get much better. And since this truck's a standard shift, he knows he'll never be able to drive it again. He said he wanted me to be the one to get it. It's one of those things where I feel bad taking his "baby" but he said, "if you don't buy it, I'm gonna sell it to someone else, so either way...." What really gives it sentimental value too is the fact that we had a mutual friend who died five years ago at 48, and the last thing that these two guys did together was to put the rebuilt motor back in this truck. So, I guess this will be one of those trucks that you never sell and hand down to your kids.

It looks kick ass --- on the one hand - i congratullate you on a fine truck, on the other hand, i have to offer some sympathy for the circumstances in which you bought it .

Your friend will appreciate you taking it over

That is a nice, clean looking rig. I'm sure your buddy is glad you got it over someone who doesn't know the history on the truck.

Congrats!

yea, that was the thing that makes me feel good, and I think he does too. He knows where the truck is, and that it's being taken care of. He garage-kept it, and I will too.

That truck has got to be one of the best looking ones I've seen in a long time! Take good care of it. I'm sure your friend is glad you've got it.

Nice truck. Don't forget to offer to take him somewhere in it from time to time.

Yea, I've already thought about that. It's too high and he can't get up in it, but I have one of those little folding two step ladders that I'm sure will do the trick. I've got a little fuel problem right now though. The gas thats in it (luckily only a gallon or two) has been in there since his stroke four years ago. Serious varnish. I may just go ahead and put a new carb on it. I put 5 gallons of fresh gas and a can of sea-foam in it, but the carb's pretty bad.

Beautiful truck, sad story. But you'll take good care of it so he'll be happy for the most part.

Wicked! Not many of these left that haven't been cleaved. You got a keeper there brother. Try to look at it this way, it makes it even more special that you have a couple good friends invovled in its history.

I kinda thought that there weren't many made. My buddy (PO) didn't know how many, so I asked the board the other day.
PA66C20 sent me a website that said 1127 SWB stepsides and 633 SWB fleetsides is all that were made in 65. And Woogeroo had a book that said there were only 2788 made total - including chassis and cab, stepside, fleetside, panel, carryall(doors)m carryall(gate)
So, I wonder just how many are still around. If they only produced 1127, maybe a couple hundred at most that are still around?

That thing is in beautifull shape.....Your buddy did a great job, and kept it really clean.

Sad story, but I think it is really awesome your buddy wanted you to have it.

Friends come and go, but it takes a real friend to take on something like that, and take care of it as he would !!!!

Good for you, man !!!

Man, that is a nice truck! It alsmost sits as high as mine after I put my wheels on! Looks like its in great shape. Sorry to hear about your friend, just make sure you pay it forward one day.

Also I dig the old school VA plates with the big block letters. Havent seen those in a LONG time! I've also never seen the inspection and county sticker oer in the corner like that in VA, I thought you HAD to have it in the middle. I think I like that better than in the middle.

That was the first thing I mentioned to him last week when he called me. But, he's a "all original" kind of guy, he said he wasn't interested. I had mentioned to him years ago that it would be neat with a 350, but he had no interest in that either. Looks like this would have been the time to drop a 350/auto combo in it. Would be real easy to do too since these old trucks have divorced transfer cases.

My 63 I have antique plates on so I don't inspect it, but my 64 gets inspected by a guy who's been inspecting many years. He says that technically, the stickers are supposed to be directly above the passenger side wiper post. It's just that with all the new cars on the road today, they're all slightly off center, so that's where most of these guys instinclty put them. But, I think the law's changed. I just looked it up on line http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...+19VAC30-70-50and it says; the sticker is to be placed at the bottom of the windshield so that the inside or left edge of the sticker is one inch to the right of the vertical center of the windshield when looking through the windshield from inside the vehicle.
