Question Wire Routing for Courtesy Light Switch - 72 Blazer

I was recently lurking under my dash and I found evidence indicating the courtesy lights on my 72 Blazer were added on by a previous owner. I'm under the impression that this was a factory option with some trucks, Blazers, and Suburbans.

The wiring appears to have been routed incorrectly. The wires in the cabin go to the switch at the "A" pillar from under the dash. The problem is that the wires were ran through the kick panel vent door openings. This method looks to be the fastest and easiest route to the switch. It is not clean looking and puts the wires at risk of damage. I would like to correct this. When installed properly, what is the correct routing for the courtesy lights to the switch at the door?

-John

In mine, which I think is the factory install, passes through a rubber grommet right above the vent lever. I'm not sure how you can pass the wire through there without taking a lot apart.

^ correct.

The end of the wire should come apart from the switch.

Pull the wire through, make up to the switch and install the switch into the door pillar.

NAPA should have them. If not they should be able to order them for you.

Ace hardware has tons of grommets like those in their specialty part area near the bolt section.
