Flywheel replacement
Is there any way at all to replace the flywheel without moving the transmission or do I have to do that.
Could someone give me a few tips on replacing it? Its a 1984 Scottsdale with an auto trans. Thanks

nope...you have to support the motor and and unbolt the tranny and slide it back if not take it out

make sure you torque down the bolts and make sure its seated properly years back we did one on a dodge van and had to do it over again cause we didnt seat it right and it developed a crack in it right after we ran the motor

How do I go about sliding the transmission back? Is there some special way to seating the flywheel or do I just make sure its on there good.

Use a good 6 point socket on the bolts. Spray the bolts down with some penetrating oil. Let it soak in for awhile to help in removing them. Use a breaker bar on the ratchet for leverage. Thick gloves would also be nice if you slip. The teeth on the flexplate are very sharp.
