Detail tips - Lets hear yours

Here's what I've done with mine. With the chrome with black wheel well trim, the black fades out. A $3.00 wide tipped paint pen from your local craft store will repaint the black in . Simply draw it on. Took 10 minutes for all four. Be sure and get the pens / markers that you shake. Will also work on the black parts on your emblems. On my tailgate I have the big aluminum piece. I repainted the black border a couple of years ago. It's faded again. Too wide for a paint pen. I plan on doing it again with black out tape. About $8.00 from parts house.

Re: Detail tips - Lets hear yours

Mine is with my Jeep, I bought it back in march and the previous owner parked in the baking sun everyday.

The plastic door handles, body side moldings, fender flares, bumper end caps and luggage rack parts were all faded gray in color.
I priced all these pieces to the tune of close to 500 bux and had planed on replacing them.

BUT,
I had a squeaky door hinge and grabbed my trusty can of Fluid Film and proceeded to lube-r-up. In the process I got a little on my thumb and when I grabbed the door handle to work the lube in I noticed a nice black thumb print on the button.

Hmmm, I got a old athletic sock turned it inside out then put it on my hand and sprayed a shot of Fluid Film on it and started wiping, Everything looks like NEW again.

Most of my truck detailing tips involve kicking the loose rust off the bed....

Re: Detail tips - Lets hear yours

When painting a car/truck (or even if you aren't)....always go back and spray the underside of the wheel wells black. Overspray looks horrible in these areas and the black makes the wheel/tire combo stand out soo much better and makes the vehicle look soo much cleaner. I am not really a fan of painted to match wheel wells either...too much color going everywhere.

WD-40
Use it on everything under the hood and underneath. Let is soak a few days and then hit the hot soap at the car wash. You'll be amazed how well the grime comes off.
