Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
Sorry for the rant but I hope I can warn others. A while back, I had to replace the inside door handle on my 95' k2500 because the lever broke. I went by Advance auto parts and looked in the Help isle. They had one and it was made by Dorman. I thought ok, that's a good brand name and its only $14.88 but its made in China. I head back to my shack with the new Dorman door handle in the sack and swap it out. Fast forward 51 days later. I'm backing into a parking space at skool and I open the door to see if I'm centered. The brand new F'n Dorman door handle breaks off in my hand. Its only 51 days old. How could this be?? I get pretty upset at myself because I didn't try to get a US made piece or a GM handle. After skool, I head over to Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet and picked up a GM piece and installed it. I find the Dorman package and the receipt and I start out the door to Advance to return the piece of #%@* Dorman handle when I see "30 day replacement if defective." All I can do is grab a beer and cuss.

and the bad thing is, it's only going to get worse. The more products they make over there (auto parts, toys, ....), the more trouble and money we are going to spend over here.

Find two other local stores. Go buy a handle at another store. Return the broken one to one of the other two stores, then return to unbroken one to the third.

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
I have replaced a few with GM handles and never had to do it again.
Shifty- Good idea in theory, but I would spend 5.00 in gas to do it. I make a LOT more than 10.00 an hour so my time wouldn't be justified.

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
OH, I did too. I paid 70 bux for a pistol grip grease gun, Freakin thing NEVER worked right (kept loosing prime). Every week I'd complain to the driver, He took it and brought it back the next week and said he couldn't find anything wrong with it then stopped coming in. Last Friday when it stopped again I took 70 bux worth of frustration out on it with a 6 lb. sledge hammer.

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
In my experience with the chain autoparts stores, you don't really even need to create a scene. The manager realizes the money isn't coming out of his pocket, and that he can get the money back for the store from the vendor that's selling him cheap crap.
I'd just go back and say, "Look, I can read the 30 day thing on this receipt, but 51 days doesn't seem like its worth it, is there anything you can do?" I'd say 90% of the time, using the polite and honest approach gets me the results I'm looking for. At the very least I'd say they'll give you store credit, and then you've got the money for your next oil and filter purchase, or whatever.

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
I have three stores within 5 miles of my house, so it would only take me 20 minutes

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
Everthings junk! For $80.00, I bought a Black&Decker electric leaf blower (USA, China, who the hell knows) and I used it to dry my motorcycle after washing it. Takes about 5 minutes to dry it, wash my bike about 10 times a summer, it lasted 2 summers before it smoked. So in reality, it lasted about two hours! Now you got me going. Same thing with Weedwackers. Seems like I'm buying one of those every 3 years. How the hell long does a Weedwacker run each summer? An hour? Its all junk! JUNK JUNK JUNK!

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD DO...almost.....I would buy a new one from the SAME STORE as the broken one....then return the broken one 12 days later....keep the unbroken one as a spare....

Re: Sorry but a rant/story about a Chinese door handle
Thanks for all the input. I took it back today and got my money back with no problem. I went in the store ready to raise hell but I didn't have to say more than "its broke."
