Lower Rad Hose
I ordered a new goodyear lower radiator hose for my 87 1/2 ton 4wd. The new hose does not have a spring in it. I tried to install a spring and it seems nearly impossible to get the spring installed. Autozone did not have a hose with a spring in it either.
Any ideas or manufactures to pick one up? Thanks guys Nick |

Re: Lower Rad Hose
Some of the newer hoses are pre-bent, and do not require springs to keep them open, I have yet to have a prebent one collapse on me
All the newer car are all prebent, the older trucks used to have a spring as a safety thing I guess My 86K10, with a 350 has the pre-bent one.....i pulled to original one out, it had a spring. It's been going strong for 2 years now Duro

Re: Lower Rad Hose
When I was in the auto biz I installed many springs by spraying armor-all on the inside. Screw the spring in place, When you get to the point the spring is flush grab it with needle nose pliers and screw it in the rest of the way.

Re: Lower Rad Hose
you can try to lube it up and screw it in but you dont need it the pre-bent ones will be fine without the spring ive had one in the truck for years

Re: Lower Rad Hose
I've seen several springless pre-bent lower hoses collapse after they're a few months old. Last time I bought a lower hose it didn't have a spring in it, so I just used the old spring. When the old spring finally bites the dust, I'm hoping somebody like McMaster-Carr will have something I can use, maybe in stainless.
