Question Keep it or cut it? Rust question

Had a question that I wanted to ask.. On my firewall, the lip has rusted pretty bad. It is all there, and I could probably weld and grind and weld and grind to get back to decent condition, but was wondering what everyone else suggests.. Work on it and fix it, or just cut it off, and smooth it out. I am posting a couple pic's to show what Im talking about.. You will see the 'holes' (I circled them).

If the rest of the cab is alright, (rockers and cab corners excluded) then sure thats only about a days work for most guys. Whats your skill level for welding and body work? If it took you longer than 5 seconds to answer that question, find some good friends that can help!!

On a scale of 1-10, I would give myself a 7 or 8.. The hardest part would be getting the inside of the lip to look good...

Then do it, this is all about the learning!! By lip do you mean that channel where the wiring lies? If so go buy a piece of stamped channel or even bend some sheet metal on a metal break, some one you know of someone from the board that lives near you probably has one. Or ask a machine shop to bend you a little section it would only take them like a minute. Just take your time, measure twice cut once!! Hope that helps!

Talking

We have formed small sheet metal angles for the inside and by the time you seam seal the channel, everything will blend in.

I would sand blast first before repairing, it looks like it could be a challenge!

Good luck!

do it. who cares about how the inside looks? Blast it and clean it up as best you can. only you''ll know the difference.

BTW: thats a strange place to have rust out. I replaced every panel you can purchase and then some on my jimmy. guess that lip was the only "good" part on my truck

that's what I thought... but I haven't seen all that many trucks, so I didn't know.. what is this lip/channel for? best I can figure is some kind of water catch to keep water from running down onto the distributor???
