stock VS tubular control arms question

Just wondering how much lower I would be if i went with tubular control arms and no cup as opposed to a cut down cup and a stock control arm? just wondering if anyone has any experience in this issue?

Re: stock VS tubular control arms question

When I did the swap on my 86, it got me down about 1 inch lower. I was running 1 1/4 cups. I think I have some pictures:

I heated the control arm where the bag was rubbing and beat it out so i had plenty room. Other then that no.

Re: stock VS tubular control arms question

would a larger cup require less beating? Where does the bag rub?

Taller cup=fewer clearance issues, but less drop. You will need to dent the area around the spring pocket, mostly on the shock side. '73-up arms have a shallower pocket that requires less clearancing and allows a shorter cup.

Re: stock VS tubular control arms question

If you change the lower arms to the "73 + style do you need to change the uppers as well?

Re: stock VS tubular control arms question

I have some tube lowers for $150 you just need to make your own crosshafts and get bushings. Used them on the new arms we built. PM ME

Re: stock VS tubular control arms question

Not necessarily. Might as well do them both IMO. 3/4 ton are the same as the early arms. You want late 1/2 ton arms.
