Hi there i just got 72 chevy truck short bed and it sit at stock hight and it to high. My question is that is there a way to lower the truck with out breaking the bank. Thanks

The cheapest way to lower your truck is by heating the springs up with a torch. keep in mind the ride will suffer, and it is really hard to get each corner the same height. Save up some money and buy springs and drop spindles

Haul a load of pennies.To get a proper 4/6 drop you need about $800 for springs,spindles,shock relocators,and adjustable panhard bar.It`s a kit from ECE.That`s not the cheapest,but it`s the cheapest to do it right.
You can add blocks to the rear for an inch or two and you can heat or cut springs for cheapest.

As Special Agent K pointed out there are several options. You should look at lots of pics on this forum and decide how much drop you want then figure out how best to go about it. You can buy only springs for a couple hundred that will get you a considerable drop. Then there are shocks to be considered. A package deal is probably best if the budget can stand it.

Drop spindles & 1-coil cut from the stock springs up front. Swap a wrecking yard 73~87 HD sway-bar on while you've got it apart. Use off the shelf gas shocks.

If it has coils out back, ditch the coils & swap in some bags. 2 dbl convoluted bags w/some shrader valves are about $50 more than drop springs but you have much more ability/adjustability. If you need more drop cut some 2" sq tubing for blocks & get some longer u-bolts (local spring shop or board vendors for $30). Center the rear end within the frame rails & cut the stock panhard bar to the right length & re-weld it (cheap/free if you can weld). Add a bolt-in c-noth if you feel the need (< $130). W/some slight modifications, you can re-use the original rear shock brackets to get more travel (and again, use off the shelf gas shocks).

If it has leafs, get a flip kit from one of the suspension companies or a board vendor.

I did the spindles/coil deal up front & the bag set-up (described above) out back..... plus swapped to discs & rebuilt the front end for less than the $800 that was mentioned.

One thing to bare in mind in the rear...^" is the max you can drop before "c"-notching the frame.6" is too close for some and 5" is minimum to many.

SCOTI 's description sounds good to me thats what i did up front on mine. probably going to end up doing the same on the rear .(except i already have an adj. panhard bar and a c notch)

If your going to chop your springs cut them with a sawzall but stay a way from heat. Take a coil off at a time cutting coil from the top of the spring. In the rear use a lowering block kit say 2.' Of course tire size plaes a part as well. Side wall profile such as a 60 series or a 50 series will make a difference of 1' to 2' over a 70 series which is around the factory size. This is about the least expensive way you can lower your truck.

You can buy all 4 springs for pretty reasonable.I think 3" is maxin`it on the front and 6" in rear.
