Pre 1975 Show
Me and my local church is thinking of holding an auto show that is cars and trucks and un fortunantly bikes. I am trying to make it a pre 1975 to eliminate all the wanna bee street racer builds. We are just out side of maybank Texas that is about 15 miles from first monday grounds. The pastor wants to make it on a night that we have a singing this means free food. Any how I told him if he would make my idea happen then i would foot the money for tropheys and ribbons and such. Any how I was just wondering if any one had ideas and how many of you would be interested or could make the show. It would be at the end "if memory serves me" of the month.
ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. |

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Sounds like a neat idea. I think I might bump the year up a little because there were still some cool trucks, Camaros, TA's, and Vettes being produced up till '80 -'81. That would include some cool rides, and still exclude what you don't want. JMHO.

Re: Pre 1975 Show
A bit far for me to attend.Just make it a "vintage" show requiring everything be 25 years old or more.

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Keep it simple pre '80, Top 10, Best Chevy,Ford etc. Best of Show, Peoples Choice. Don't make to big on your first show.

Re: Pre 1975 Show
70CST I dont know how much the church is going to help with this deal that is the main reason i am not gonna make it real big alot of people think that 20.00 for a trophey is nothing but when you dont have alot to spare after bills and bulid then 20.00 aeach tends to add u. How ever I have been thinking of.........doing just as you mentioned best bike best truck and best car its going to be an open rod and custom type car show. So basically i will need 9 tropheys toatle 1-3 for all 3 classes plus the cost of food and entertainment well some of that part will be free but you get the point.
I just wnna make it fun and offer up a trophy for the winners so that it aint a complete waiste of time and money for them. |

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Keep it open to all.The idea is to come up with money for a special project for the church, right?Just choose judges that prefer classics.

Re: Pre 1975 Show
i agree with panel i think...lol i would have a open show... but only have tropheys for a specific year and or class.....i personaly only like pre 80s shows myself....i hate to label people but most ricers draw a different crowd and cant get their head out of their butts....and only want to see if you run NOS lol not N.O.S there is a show in INDY called the TRUCK BASH....5/6 years ago..it was all trucks and in the last 4 years its all imports and draws a bad crowd....it totally destroyed a great show.........just my 2 cents

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Hey bent...pm me your address. Since I am very involved in my church in many different ways I will offer to support your effort by sending you $$$ either by check or by Pay Pal to be used for truck trophy’s. I hope this helps. Good luck for it is a good thing that you are doing!

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Just choose judges that prefer classics.....Paneldeland i could care less who wins or looses Im doing this for the fun of it and yes to help raise funds to help get the wheel chair ramp removed so that the elderly will stop tripping over it and to help out with what ever else is needed. our church wasnt always a church it was something else at 1 time.
BAD6772 That is the main reason why I am wanting to keep it as an older class as apposed to say 2000 and older how ever i am thinking that I will make it 83 and older for the reason that 67_C_30 said. 70CST I dont really know what to say aside from thanks. I will be making phone calls tomorrow and I will be sure the Pastor knows what you are doing HOWEVER Please dont get me wrong I did NOT post about money being tight in a since of asking for help and if any one thinks that then you need to realise that thats not why I said or posted this stuff yiou guys R cool thats why im still posting on this board. So 70CST AND ANY OTHERS please dont think that that was a shy attempt at getting any help I meant it in no way like that just givin imput on why I was doing it the way I had planned as far as tropheys are concerned. |

Re: Pre 1975 Show
BENT...your on safe gound. There was never a hint in your thread of you asking for financial support from any of us...just support in ideas on how to set up an Auto Show. I am doing what I am doing for personal reasons that are explained in my pm. I use to judge "Street Rod" shows many years ago and although I loved seeing the differrent cars and trucks up close it was also a lot of work. We judges could never make everyone happy. There are those here who have much more knowledge than I on how to set up an Auto Show. I m sure you will do well.

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Have a really nice trophy made up and a hundred or so dash plaques. (Or however many you expect to have show up.) With each entrant pass out a dash plaque and a ballet. Put the pressure of picking a winner on the participants, this way your group won't take any flack from the poor losers, and with the plaque everyone gets something.
I would limit the years though, because there's no comparison between a 2003 Toymotor and a vintage short stepside. JMO

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Good thinking. I think classic car/truck show should have classics, and the 73-80's often get left out when they are very classic IMO

Re: Pre 1975 Show
I think you are missing out if you limit the show to older cars/trucks. Most Churches I have ever been involved with are always trying to grow their youth ministry. I can't think of a better way of getting the youth involved than to offer classes for the cars/trucks that they are driving or interested in. I would also have them help with planning, parking and any other way you can get them involved.
I judged a show this weekend that was put on by the school districts automotive department heads. They had classes set up for late models and specific classes for students. The student class was so big we decided to split it in to early and late. These kids brought back the excitement that I once knew every time a judge looked my car over at a show. Don't avoid the youth, give them a positive alternative to hanging out on the street. The rewards are HUGE...

Re: Pre 1975 Show
Daytona Trophy has been specializing in car show awards for many years. I used them many times for show I promoted- Daytona Trophy
