Is the Adapter Plate OK?

I bought a 396 engine with a Edelbrock #1411 750 carb with a square bore adapter which is on the stock Chevy 3883948 intake manifold. The stock manifold is for a Quadrajet carb. Edelbrock spec's out a Quadrajet adapter plate #2696 for the 1411 on this manifold. I just want to get the engine running to see if it is OK, then later in the future I plan on putting on the proper Edelbrock intake for this carb. Will I be OK to use the square bore adapter for awhile? Will this cause poor performance? The PO said he had 10K on the engine after a rebuild. Thanks for any help.

Should be O.K. you'll lose a little low end torque, but you probaly won't even notice...

Re: Is the Adapter Plate OK?

49m, thanks for your reply. I am concerned because the PO used a square bore adapter for his Edlebrock carb instead of a quadrajet adapter like Edelbrock recommends for a stock Chevy quadrajet manifold. I guess he thought using a square bore adapter was like having a square bore manifold.

Re: Is the Adapter Plate OK?

I installed an adapter plate, supposed to incease high end performance, never noticed any difference in performance low or high. Reason I put it on was to be able to get another vac. port.

esll.
