68 k20 on 94 k20 diesel chassis how hard???

I want to swap out my gas drivetrain for diesel since this will be my tow rig. I have a good cab and front and no bed, I found a guy parting out a 94 k20 4x4 and its still in running/driving condition, he just needed the bed. How hard would it be to pull my cab/fenders and put them on his chassis????

the 94 he is asking $1200 obo for what ever I want...and its a 6.5

It has been done. Not real easy, but doable. I would do a forums search. You will find some info there.

I would do lots of homework, measuring several times and a body lift for handy measures.

I know its been done but not a lot of info in it. most guys decide to keep there straight axle its a stronger set up. Im puting a 6.2 in my burb as far as engine swap its pritty straight forward.

I saw one with a 14" body lift, and it looked like it went in pretty easy.

I would think with a 14 body lift that sound dangerous.

I`d try that drivetrain in an older frame if you don`t have one, now.Either one from 67-72 or adapt the body to a`73-up.

Re: 68 k20 on 94 k20 diesel chassis how hard???

actually I think we have it all straightened out. After I told him that I realy didnt want to mess with waiting for him to get a new title before I could do anything with it, he called the state and found out that if we go in togther to the DMV he can sign it over right there so that the title goes to me and I can go ahead and get the plates etc....Im debating what to do, I found a 6.2 complete and running with 150k miles on it for $400 and the guy needs it gone so most likely he will take less (and it has the glow controller). The 96 is computer controlled and just not sure I realy want to try to sort all of that out, although I know it would be the better motor/driveline. Im looking for milage over towing...I will be towing with it but only about 3000#'s. but given i dont want a dog either. 20mpg would sure be nice but, needs to be reliable.

Re: 68 k20 on 94 k20 diesel chassis how hard???

you will save alot of cash getting the 6.5 now and changing it over to the 6.2 fuel system then geting a 6.2 and adding a turbo. even if you use a 6.5 turbo on the 6.2 your looking at 500 at the cheapest to get a hold of every thing you need.
