Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Have a nice wood grain tach dash for sale. Original GM dash, still has mfg. sticker on it. Back tin has NO rust, needles have some fade, factory printed circut with no cracks or repairs. Date still legible on circut board. Some wear on outer edge of bezel but NO cracks or broken screw holes. All dash lights present with one being for a fiber optic but the line was cut. Hooked the tach up and it does work. Small amount of woodgrain overlay loose near H/L switch but mounted switch will cover. No pics now but later tonight when get home from work. $350 shipped UPS insured. Reply in thread please.

Is it for a 6 cylinder or 8?

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Honestly can't say, I've looked at the back of the tach and there are some faded stamped numbers or letters (can't tell ) but no idea. Anyway to tell for sure? Adjustment hole has what looks like a sticker that has been removed.

You may have to remove the printed circuit board and look very closely in the light and it will say 8 cyl or 6 cyl.

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

I removed the printed circut board and still cannot read the markings under it. The stampings are pretty faintly marked. Looks like it is a 6 digit number but it is to faint to be legible. Any ideas ?

8 CYL will be stamped on the back of the tach for a V8. 6 cyclinder tachs have no markings. Good luck

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Must be a 6 cyl. tach then. I already removed the circut board and can find no stampings on the tach other then some very faint inked stamped numbers or letters, can't really tell since they are so faint. Dash panel looks to be all original. Did GM use the woodgrain trim with 6 cyl. engines? Figured the woodgrain trim level would be on the upper end Cheyennes and V-8's??

The 8CYL is usually stamped in the lower left, opposite the 12V stamp - I think

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Sounds as if the dash I have is in fact a 6 cyl. tach. If I'm to high on the price let me know, need to raise some $$$ for current project.

whell, when you hooked up the tach to your engine, was it reading accurate, or did it seem to be way off?

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Yeah, I had a 6 cyl tach hooked up to my V8 and it definitely read higher. As in, it was easy to peg it at 5,000 It should be easy to tell if you hook it up.

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

I was pretty sure that the 6 cyl tachs looked different than the v8 tachs. To me this exactly like a v8 tach. I thought the 6 cyl didn't have so many numbers on them??? Anyone chime in? Trevor

Here's a pic of the 6 cyl tach I mentioned earlier. Looks exactly the same from what I can see.

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

I have a 6 cyl tach and it is stamped in faint black ink on the back...just like the 8 cyl. So you may have either one.
You should hook it up to a running truck, so you will know. This will also make the buyers feel better if they know it actually works.

Re: Tach Dash F/S - Ks

Okay, after some more research in the 6 cyl vrs. 8 cyl tach question I have come to the conclusion that I indeed do have a 8 cyl. tach. I hooked the tach in question to my running '71 4x4 with what I do know is an 8 cyl. tach in the dash. The tach registered within 25 rpm of my own truck which I would think is a pretty respectable variation. The needle responds well when you jab the throttle. Perhaps I need to make a new thread with new information. If the $350 shipped is to high let me know, I can flex some.
