Restored Tilt Columns - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

First off this is not a want to buy ad.I am wondering how much a restored Truck tilt column with column shift goes for.I am saving up to buy one but i have no idea how much i need to save.Also what about a restored van tilt thats been converted how much do they go for.

I've seen them ranging from $300 and up. You can sometimes find one on ebay.

well i just bought one off ebay. very nice resto job with all handles. cost me $455.00 with shipping included.

I got an unrestored one off ebay for $250 shipped

It was an actual truck column out of a '69.

I don't know but if you have a free afternoon,pick up a van tilt from the junkyard for $15-$45 (average around here),get the wiring adapter (probably $10),or if you get one from an older van you don't need it,collapse the intermediate shaft,move the neutral saftey switch,and you have a functional tilt column for a fraction of the cost.That's what I do...You save some $$$$ this way.I've seen original truck tilts right out of the trucks sell for $200-$275...

I would contact Mel (Classic Bowties ) bet he would know and he might just have original truck one or a converted one.

I would go with a van tilt also. I got some time this weekend and converted 3 of them in an afternoon. (Sorry they are going into my trucks). It isn't difficult to do them though. And usually easier to find. Hardest part I have found is collapesing intermediate shaft

I was reading the faq you wrote on moving the neutral safty switch.And my concern is i dont have a cutoff wheel.Do you have to move it.

I have had a few people tell me that if they mounted the column as close to the dash as possible they could make it fit

i mounted mine tight aginst the dash and it did need to be moved
