Post gas cap ???????????????? help

got a locking gas cap that leaks.so i go to napa and look it up in book and get it well it goes on but wont tighten up it starts to but then it slips kinda like a stripped bolt does.so i take the one off the other 72 that fits fine but it does the same thing on this 72.the new cap fits the other 72 fine but not this one.are there different size filler necks used in these trucks.i thought 2 72s would be the same

Sounds like your filler neck might be messed up (guessing). I'm in Virginia Beach, I'll give you one of my tanks if you want to come and get it.

There was 2 sizes of filler necks available on these trucks.
1-1/2" and 2-1/8"
Although I have never seen one with a 1-1/2" neck.
What size does your truck have?

I dont know what the difference is but if you look at gas caps in the LMC catalog they show different part numbers for trucks with EEC and without EEC.(Evaporative emmission Control). The ones with EEC have a small Tube that comes off the side of the filler neck near the gas tank. But I dont know if this is your problem or not.Perhaps someone at LMC could help.

One is vented and one is not.
