one piece windows
I am planning on purchasing the one piece windows and I have a question to anybody that has installed them. I can not decide if I want to go with the clear and have them tinted or if the gray would be dark enough. I know Brothers sells them, is there anybody else that sells them cheaper.
Thanks |

Re: one piece windows
Since you are in AZ, order the ones that are already tinted. Check with any of the board venders here for the windows, but I think those get them from brother as well. Someone will correct me if I am wrong...

Re: one piece windows
I bought the tinted version from brothers and they are not very dark. Great product though. I waited for them to go on sale, but if you factor in the time and money spent repairing the vent windows it's money well spent. Plus I think they look better.

Re: one piece windows
why don't you just buy the clear, and tint them the shade you want?
Since the windows will be out of the vehicle, it would be very easy, and only take maybe an hour. just my opinion

Re: one piece windows
The tint is about 35%, but is not super dark. If you doubt it will do for AZ, then buy the clear and tint them (I actually think the clear are a little easier to get, as my tinted ones were backordered when I bought them).
<<EDIT>> If your avatar photo is accurate, that is just about the tint that the tinted kit is. Brothers makes this kit, so you will not find it cheaper with anyone else. From my experience, there was some trouble with the door check modification. I suspect it is because the early 67's had a slightly different check design, but we had to pretty extensively modify our checks, including springs and stuff, to get them to work. When I called Brothers on this, they had not heard of anyone having trouble. Last edited by nandress; 12-09-2006 at 04:26 PM. |

Re: one piece windows
For the most part, yes! It's been a while, so I am not able to remember if there was anything specifically wrong with the instructions. I know it was only a couple hours, and once you had one done the other was simple.
But there were a few hiccups that were caused by minor details on our truck that Brothers couldn't have forseen that we had to deal with, the door check being the most frustrating. |

Re: one piece windows
I agree with nandress, pretty simple to follow, and even if you are using new door hinges, I would still modify the door checks as described in the directions.
If you are doing this for the first time, try to get someone else that has done this before to give you a hand. For me, I took my time doing it, and I was a little apprehensive, but now that I did one, I would no problems doing it again. |

Dont forget to weld up the holes where the wing window screws went.

Hind sight would have said to just buy new hinges. Like I said, even Brothers had never heard of anyone else having the same problem!! |

Re: one piece windows
What I did on the door check with my truck after grinding them down to the reccommended shape, was to add rubber coated washers that I cut a slot in and then using a hammer and punch, inserted them around the spring pin between the check and door hinges. This got rid of the sloppiness of the door check which is what the issue is.

Re: one piece windows
a little aside on this subject: Will the standard 1-piece window kit that brothers sell (the one for manual crank windows) work with existing power window regulators? or so I have to but the entire power 1-piece window kit to go that route?
thanks

Re: one piece windows
Cmars45000,
Send a PM to Chevydude. He can probably answer the question since he has electric in his truck. Mine are manual with the light tint...nice windows. ![]()
