carb or efi, what's your preference?
i thought, as many others have that all new tech is crap........until you understand it. i swore a few years back that i would never install another carb on a project (grown to dislike their temperment over the years) and am in the process of swapping the gto over to fuel injection. what do you prefer?

well, if money wasn't an issue ALL of my cars would be fuel injected. maybe it's just me, but I don't think injection is that complicated. it's just a computer...
lofly'a this is the direction that I'm taking my gto. It's always been in the game plan to swap to efi. What do you plan on using for your swap? I was thinking about making a custom sheetmetal intake for mine or I could modify an existing intake. have you checked out www.tigerefi.com ? Ive also seen a carbon fiber intake for a gto, but thats a little expensive. let me know how everything works out. I'm very interested in your results

red72blazer, i'll have to do a little research, but i think the company that does conversions is Speartech. i'm gonna go and hunt thru their website again. Turbo City also has a pretty good tbi 4 injector setup that uses all gm parts except the tbi which is made by Holley if i remember right for about a grand. I think the turbo city unit is the way i'll go with the gto, and if it works out well i'll introduce one to that 402 i got planned for the gmc. it all boils down to the no cold start problem, smooth power curve, low or no maintenance issue and pure constant performance that draws me to efi.

Well I'm sure when my baby fire's up for the first time it will have whatever four barrel I have on hand that functions installed. I would like to add a regular TBI to the truck later, but only on the cheap-cheap. If I can't get it done for a 300 or so, forget it.

for 3 bills you may be able to acquire a stock tbi setup if ya shop around, which is great if thats all your engine demands.
i know that i'll have to fork over at least 2 grand for what i want, but that is the complete engine management system. force fuel injection, tiger efi, and rance have great tailored packages, but i absolutely love the accel super ram for that big block. i went to turbo city's web site and they are not offering the 4 injector tbi setup anymore .......????? they say they are working on an improved 4 injector setup.

For me, it's a $ question.
If I had the bucks, then it's a no brainer - multi point, mass air flow EFI. As it stands now, I don't have the $ for what I want, so... carburetion, you're still the one. There used to be a gap, in all-out performance, between the carbureted and fuel injected engines... with carbs winning out - narrowly. But that gap is fast disappearing (gone?). When driveability is the deciding factor, there's no contest - EFI. EVERY time! Jeff

I have to agree that EFI kicks a$$. Start up the truck, and drive up w/o warming it up. Glass smooth ildeing, good fuel economy and power, and less plug fouling. Plus most EFI systems that i have seen will go about 150xxx to 200xxx miles without any problems, besides the fuel pumps and filters that sometimes go out. However, when it comes to working on your vehicle, a carb is awesome. It takes me about 10 minutes to remove a carb, and 15 at the most to reinstall it. Try doing that on any EFI vehicle. Parts are cheaper on a carb, and you can jet it richer for more power. So, for a daily driver, i would want EFI. For a weekend cruiser, a good 'ole 4bbl is the way to go.
