This motorhome (or housecar as they were called in the day) is a factory cab/chassis truck that was modified by Open Road motorhome company. The sliding rear door is a giveaway, the only company that ever did that to my knowledge.

I had a nice 1968 Open Road, and have a pretty good set of pictures (interior and exterior) here: http://pages.prodigy.net/cthallst/1968c30openroad/
I sold it to another board member from Ohio, and last I heard he was using it to camp with his wife and daughter. We had some really fun trips in that camper, relatively inexpensive family fun and a fun way to get the family involved in old trucks.

Hhmm..... My GF suggested we rent an RV next summer for a 'road trip / family vacation'. I wonder if I could convince her that it is in fact an RV.... we would save lots of $$ vs. renting one..... and I could keep it as a souvineer (sp?) after the trip.

I wonder if she would go for it????????

scoti, my wife is wanting a motorhome/travel trailer also. i wouldn't mine having one like this, it would be great for camping out at the swapmeets in...

I was thinking Longhorns/1-tons were 133" & Cab/chassis trucks were 157" but wasn't 100% sure.

I'd love to have one, but they really only sleep two and I have three kids. For what a rental will cost you can own this one, and do it in style. As long as it is a couple or a small family it'll work great!!

Part of camping is the "togetherness"!
Almost all of these motorhomes will easily sleep 4: 2 adults on the bed above the cab and 2 adults/kids on the dinette converted to a bed. My old rig also had the couch in the back for 1 adult (my favorite spot), and floor space for 2 more. It worked out ok for sleeping, but I would hate to be stuck inside with that many people on a rainy day!!
