Actual tire height

My BFG Muds measure only about 34inch, but they are listed as 35inch. We should know the actual height of our tires before considering gear change ect.. The calculators out there that allow us to find our final gear ratio with tires is a nice thing, but if we plug in an incorrect tire size like 35 instead of 34 it changes things a bit. How much actual difference is there in other tire makers? Are they all within an inch or so? Or are some much more, or right on the money?

Re: Actual tire height

yeah, they are kind of deceiving. for gearing calculations it's best to use the tire's static load height. measure from your axle center to the ground with the vehicle level and multiply by 2. from what i've experienced there are variations between companys but most are within +/- one inch.

Re: Actual tire height

Yeah, they vary.I measured my wife`s 10.50/31 BFG A/Ts and compared to a 12.50/33 Kelley Safari AWR and the BFG was taller.A 285/75 SuperSwamper SSR was taller, too, and the BFG was a tad shorter.

Gear ratios are based on a 26" tire.So all our trucks are running taller ratios than we think.

Re: Actual tire height

My 35" Super Swamper SSR's measure right about 34". I hear the Parnell Jones are pretty close to advertised specs but seems most of the Super Swampers are smaller than advertised.
