Re: welding gears
Hey panel deland just cause we beat on outr cars a little now and a gain dont make us the junker dirt trackers just the good ones. HOWEVER paneldeland is right as well as the others that has said not to do I have talked to people that has done and none of them has had anything good to say about and YES you will need a second job just to keep tires on the thing. With it being a dailey driver you have too keep in mind that you will be a making corners and B driving in god knows what grease oil mudd snow rain ice ect ect ect all spell disaster with what you are wanting to do. So if you wanna keep ur truck in 1 piece dont do man it aint worth it.

Re: welding gears
i have a chevelle with a one wheel wonder and i wanted a posi, most people told me to do a locker instead of a posi, they said the posi has clutches that wear out and the locker is all metal parts. i ended up with a powertrax by richmond gears for about 400 bucks, it was easy to install and it works great, the only complaint is that it clicks when it unlocks around corners.

Re: welding gears
"lincoln locker" as in lincoln welder if you weld it it will break..... people talk about the clutches wearing out on posi units.. it dosnt happen very often.....I have used several from salvage yard and the worked well...I had one rear end that was a posi from the factory that was not working.... i tore apart the rear end to find a posi.. i didnt know it was there... I changed the gears and fluid I also put in the "posi Additive from General Motors" ... When i put it back to gether it would burn them both all day...... dont get me wrong i have seen them wore out and shot but not very often and never one of mine

Re: welding gears
setting up a rear diff is not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. find yourself a good posi and do it yourself. just take your time and expect to take it apart a few times. in the end you will have learned a new skill that you can make some cash wih on your friends trucks, and you will have something you dont hate to drive.
