I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

is there any way to lower the front of a drum brake truck more than just the two inch coils. It seems like all of the drop spindles made are for disc breaks. I would like to do an axle flip in the back but that means i'm gonna have to get that front end down pretty low. Any info or how to pics would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

no problem... it should be close to level maybe the front just a little lower... you have to ask G.M.C Paul what brand they are ? i got them from him....? but most if not all site venders carry them. here is a couple pics of my 72 pre< this fall> frame off... i was running 3 inch springs in the front and a D.J.M flip kit but it should give you an idea of how the rear should set.hope this helps....also the last pic is about 3 years old with a late model bed on it< now changed to correct bed.> the tires on it are 355/45/17s in the rear and 335/45/17s in the frontName: 72 side.JPG

You can get dropped arms. I think they lower it about 2.5'' If you want it even lower you can used dropped coils also.

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

Flipped the rear , cut the coils , cut and lowered the spring pockets in the lower controll arms . Cut and welded untill I got it as low as I wanted . Still 4 wheel drums and 6 lugs!!!Oh yeah first i converted it to leaf springs in the rear!!!

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

I'm guessing that all 1/2 ton leaf spring packs are the same but looking at mine its probably 2 1/2 inches thick and the axle tubes are probably 3 so will i get about 6 inches lower in the rear. And can i just put a bolt in notch in it for that.

Corn...
Your truck is perfect. Thats the exact look i'm going for only i decided to go with gloss black.

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

cut coil front (1 ring), flipped rear, & adjusted the spring hanger height. Roughly a 3/5 drop, + 1 1/2" body drop http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn L

My longhorn isnt notched either, runs about 2 1/2" clearance tween the frame & axle. Its never hit , but the traction bars are set up pretty close. L

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

Just by looking at my truck it looks as though i will need a small c-notch. Also what do i do about my rear shocks? Just get shorter ones or what

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

TTT. does anyone have anymore important info i need before i attempt this. I'm getting some spring mounts for the axle from summit racing for $12.00 and my step dad is getting me a piece of 5 inch pipe for free from his work for the c notch. Is there anything else i need other than new U-bolts and my front coils or do i have it all under control?

Re: I want it low..but i wanna keep drums...

My flip kit has the centering pin offset to compensate for pinion angle & also it centers the wheels back into the wheel well. Not sure rewelding pads back on would fix any of that...

Thanks for letting me know that before i ruined my truck. I didnt think about it moving the axle. What company did you get your flip kit from. Maybe i'll just buy one from a vendor
