'59 Speedo drive gear for 700r4 ??
I bought a rebuilt 700r4 for my '59 but it didnt come with a speedo drive gear. I want to use the original speedo. Anyone know which gear to use (approx) using 18" wheels on rearend? If not, how 'bout a formula to figure it out? Thanks......Paul

Do you still have the one from your transmission you took out of the truck?

found this
Speedometer Calculation Formula The SAE Standard for Speedometers on American cars is set up so that the speedometer cable will turn 1,000 rpm at 60 mph or 1000 revolutions in 1 mile. Simply multiply the rear axle gear ratio by the speedometer drive gear, divide that by the tire diameter and multiply this by 20.2 (a constant). The following formula can be used to determine the correct speedometer driven gear. Driven Gear = Gear ratio X Speedometer Drive Gear divided div. by TireDia = a a X 20.2 = Number of Teeth on Speedometer Gear Brian ...

Do you have any idea what gear ratio the rear end is, 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00

Do you have the gear installed on the mainshaft of the transmission, inside the tail shaft?
